Patient Spotlight: Alexi Pappas

Patient Spotlight: Alexi Pappas

Alexi is a renaissance woman. She is a professional runner after being a NCAA All-American at Dartmouth and University of Oregon, she represented Greece in the 2016 Olympic Marathon, she is an author, a film maker and and an actor. I love Alexi for her curiosity about all things , her generousness to all people that meet her and her resilience both athletically, privately  and professionally. Alexi inspires at least one thing in me each time we meet.

I have had the privilege of treating Alexi for several years now and our sessions are so much more than just fixing whatever running injury she may have at that moment. Our sessions are a perfect representation of the extended integrated body work sessions I am beginning to offer. We address specific strains and sprains with my Active Release Experience, we address any joint fixation or alignment issues with gentle mobilization, we move and release fascia globally and we introduce deep dural release work with active breath practice to add a reset or organizing layer to the body work session .

I'll never forget the first time I met Alexi several years ago. She was actively training for a marathon and had several issues with her back and hamstring. She has access to all sorts of providers and had been seeing several of them when she presented to me. After getting to know her and sensing her energy I suggested that for a couple of weeks maybe Alexi should just stop. Stop seeing so many people doing all sorts of stretching and training and therapy simply rest. That advice seemed to resonate with her and after a couple of weeks her body recovered, her mind rested and she went on to race well. Sometimes we just need to rest.

I look forward to every session with Alexi as she explores new challenges and new opportunities.
